How to download your Bank of America statements

OFX / QFXOFX/QFX (recommended). PDF statements exist but Pare can't parse them.

Bank of America exports Quicken-format files from the account activity view. Use that rather than the PDF statement — Pare has no BofA PDF parser.

Steps

  1. 01Sign in at bankofamerica.com and open the account.
  2. 02Statements & Documents holds the PDFs; for Pare you want the export instead.
  3. 03From account activity choose Download, then the Quicken (.qfx) format.
  4. 04Drop the .qfx into Pare.

Worth knowing

BofA limits how far back the export reaches on some accounts. If you want more history than it offers, pull several shorter ranges — re-importing overlapping files is safe, because dedup keys on the bank's own transaction id.

What Pare does with it

Drop the file into Pare and it parses the transactions locally, categorises them, and builds spending trends, budgets and a cash-flow forecast. Uploaded PDFs are deleted the moment they're parsed, and Pare never asks for your bank login. You can also self-host it so the data never leaves your machine.
